that's just the way life is...

Ryker, how did you get so dirty?

Well, you know, Dad. (shrugging) That's just the way yife is.

did you know...

Did you know that a 'handburger' got its name because its just the right size for your hand?

Did you know Horton Hears a Who is about an elephant who talks to owls?

Did you know that little sisters do all sorts of things like color on walls, take scissors to books, reach and eat marshmellows from the third shelf and pour cups and cups of detergent into the washingmachine? Naughty little sister!

Did you know that sugar bugs fluff? That is how one gets stinky breath, after all.

easter

Happy Easter, all. It looked like Christmas morning here, with the Grandmas' contributions. Mom gave Ryker handcuffs. Ryan thought they were his. Hmmmmm. Thanks, Rex, for the delightful tulip bouquet! We had fun 'hunting eggs' with Luca and Reid. Rex was much more interested in digging. Shame on Tyler and Aim for not thinking to bury any eggs for him. :-)

home, sweet home!

We had a great time in California but missed Ryan terribly. I get the impression that he is as glad to have us home as we are to be here. Thank you for that, babe, and for letting us go! Our kids are great travelers but this was an eventful vacation. We spent 4 late night hours in emergency as I just won't take a chance with Em's fevers again. Another couple of hours were wasted in urgent care to tend to a rash - possibly an allergic reaction to pennicilin prescribed by the EM doc for an imaginary ear infection. Yeesh! The airlines will be replacing Ryker's lost booster seat (we're still waiting on reimbursement for the damaged stroller from our trip in December). Ryker and I were booked on different flights for the connecting trip home. The airline was happy to fix this error but while I was preoccupied, Ryker fed Emerson "just a few peanut M&M's". Like maybe five or ten. He couldn't say for sure. Ah well, all is well that ends well! We're tan, not-so-rested and happy to be home!

la jolla

I have found my dream retirement location. Well...it will be added to the list. La Jolla, just ten minutes north of San Diego, is perfect. Mom found a great little hotel near the beach - a century old but beautifully restored. Two entire walls of our suite had windows to the ocean. Ryker was impressed by the bellhops who drove us to dinner in a little golf cart. We walked to one of many beaches to play and on the way observed the seals that return each year to mate and calve. Sadly, these beaches are open to the public and every so often someone (probably a tourist) gets too close. Pups are frequently abandoned as a result. This one pictured was minutes old. We had a delightful breakfast at another century old hotel with an amazing picture window to the ocean. I'm picturing a romantic very weekend with my honey next year.

sea world

Ryker loooved Sea World! We had to see the shark exhibit twice. He touched everything and didn't miss a thing. Not pictured was the water ride that Ryker HAD to participate in. There was a chance we might get wet but six people in our boat walked off dry. Ryker and I were soaked!!! Very fun.
